General Information

Membership:

  • Dues for the 2006-2007 season are $25.00 per individual, $40.00 for a family, or $10.00 for high school and college students.

 

Rehearsals:

  • Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00.
  • If you must miss a rehearsal inform your section coordinator as soon as possible.
  • You must attend 75% of the rehearsals for each concert.
  • If you share music and are missing a rehearsal PLEASE make arrangements to have the music available for you section.
  • BAD WEATHER and SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS - check with website home page, call Dexter Community Education (426.4008), check your email, or call a board member.
  • Please help to setup the rehearsal room and clean up the room after practice.

 

Concert Dress:

  • Halloween Concert - Wear a costume!
  • Holiday Concert - Men wear black suits, socks, and shoes with a white shirt and red or green bow tie. Women wear black pants or skirts, hose, shoes, and a red or green top.
  • Formal Concerts - Men wear black suits, socks, and shoes with a white shirt and black bow tie. The band has purchased bow ties if you do not own one. Women wear black floor length skirts, dresses, or pants, a black top, hose, shoes.
  • Concert Accessories: Carnations - For all formal concerts we wear colored carnations made for the band by Eric Starnal. These are distributed before the concert and RETURNED after each concert.
  • Black Concert Folders - Concert music folders are distributed before each performance and RETURNED after each performance.

Committees:

  • To make the band the smooth running group it is, all members are asked to sign up for a committee. Description of the committees:
    • Publicity - Distribute posters, contacts news media, places signs around town, and distributes fliers to schools.
    • Decorations - Decorate the performance venue as appropriate for each concert.
    • Library - Headed by the band librarian. Distributes music, arranges for additional copies as needed, collects, and files all music.
    • Refreshment - Sets up and cleans up the refreshment area for concert goers.
    • Social Events - Plan specific social gatherings.
    • Membership - Collect , update, and distribute membership information, including periodic rosters and information for the program.
    • Programs - Design, layout, and print the program for each concert.
    • Setup/Strike - This committee is divided into two groups. Their responsibilities are setting up and putting away all the band equipment needed for each concert.
    • Percussion - Work with the percussion section in transporting, setting up, and returning all the percussion equipment.
    • Audio video - Make audio/video recordings of each concert, set up announcer's equipment, and make tapes and CD's of each concert for our members.
    • Ushers - The ushers are friends and family members that hand out the programs and seat the audience as they arrive. On occasion they may handle "delicate" situations during the performance
